A Hogtastic Time Was Had By All!

Picture of a window decorated for Harvest at Rosemary LaneEvery year on or near the Sunday of the Harvest Moon (This is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox ) there is a special service where we give thanks for a successful harvest.

The inside of church during harvest serviceWe celebrate this day, known as Harvest Festival, by singing, praying and decorating our churches with baskets of flowers and food.

The scouts window in churchHarvest Festival reminds Christians of all the good things God gives them. Traditionally, in schools and in Churches, people bring food from home to a Harvest Festival Service. After the service, the donated food is usually made into parcels and given to people in need.

Members of the Hogscoffers and the Hog Preservation Societies were out in force to celebrate Harvest at Holy Trinity Church. As part of the Harvest Thanksgiving celebrations, Holy Trinity had a Hog Roast in the Church Grounds. Over 300 adults and children enjoyed scoffing the hog roast whilst the vegetarians, all members of the Hog Preservation Society, enjoyed Mediterranean kebabs.

The Church looked fantastic with examples of the abundant harvest inside and outside of Church the lovers of bunting had a great time decorating the building with 200 metres of coloured bunting.

Funny photo of the vicar The scoffing doesn’t end there…. on the first Sunday of the month after the 8.45 service and before the 10.30 service, they’ll be tucking into a full English breakfast with very wicked fried bread! Why not join us?
