Sunday on 28th September, which
is also our Harvest Festival.
The Parochial Church Council has established a sub group of members,
under the leadership of Kath Rogers, to put into place the necessary
strategy to ensure that we maximise the impact of this initiative
in our parish.
This simple idea behind this annual day is to invite those who used
to attend a church in the past – whether that is the recent
past, or many many years ago – to consider attending a church
service, in the hope that, from that experience, they will wish
to return to being a regular worshipping member of the church.
Where churches have been involved with this in the past, they have
experienced an excellent response and many are able to produce evidence
of many people who are once more members of their church.
Obviously there will be a lot of planning required, to ensure that
this initiative is a success for us at Holy Trinity and, if you
would like to assist in this, please speak with Kath or me. BUT
at the end of the day, the most important task will be identifying
those to invite. I am sure that everyone reading this magazine will
know someone in Formby, who used to attend either Rosemary Lane
or Redgate, but no longer do so – indeed you may be just such
a person – I invite everyone to prayerfully consider who might
be invited to our services that day.
Once you have prayed and have a name, there are
three things that you can do.
- Firstly pass on their name(s) and address to Kath.
- Secondly consider whether you might be the person who should be
extending a personal invitation for them to come to church; or better
still, you could invite them to come with you to our Harvest Festival.
- Thirdly, and perhaps most important of all, commit yourself to pray
for them, by name, over the coming months.
There will be more about this in subsequent
editions of this magazine, between now and Harvest – so be on
the lookout for other ways in which you might be involved.
We have just celebrated Trinity Sunday, our Patronal Festival, when
our Gospel for the day was a great encouragement to us all, to be
Christians who are seeking to bring others to a living faith, as Jesus
says…..
“Go and make disciples of all nations……”
We may not all be called to go overseas as ambassadors for Jesus,
but each one of us is, I believe, called to reach out to our neighbour
with the Good News of Jesus.
Yours in His service
Keith
