April 2008 - The Curate Writes...
“Be still for the presence of the Lord…”
I love this time of year. From my study window,
I can see the daffodils just beginning to flower and the first spring
shoots appearing on the shrubs. The passing seasons remind me that
everything in life has a cycle and that God’s creation is
delicately balanced.
We should remember that God created us and our
own lives need balance. We live in a world where everyone is busy,
not only those in employment but also those who are retired.
At one time, Sunday used to bring balance to the
pace of life. When I was growing up, it was quite different from
the other days of the week. It was a slower, quieter day. Nowadays,
Sunday can sometimes seem to be the busiest day of the week. For
example when I lived in Warrington, the roads near IKEA were usually
at their busiest on a Sunday.
We all need to find a balance in our lives –
a balance between work, rest and play. We also need to find time
in our lives to be still in God’s presence and to receive
His peace….and that isn’t only on a Sunday.
I pray that we will all make time every day to
follow the words of the song “Be still, for the presence of
the Lord, the Holy One is here….”.
