Workshop on Wednesdays (WOW)

This photograph shows the amazing array of goods knitted and presented to the charity Hands of hope Romania. Sarah White one of the charity trustees collected a car full of beautiful items for shoe boxes to ensure that the children of Jibou, get a gift each Christmas which is practical and warm as well as a real expression of love. Sarah has been out to visit the Roma community there who live in circumstances similar to the Mumbai slums seen in Slumdog Millionaire but much colder of course!

Hands of Hope Romania is a local Christian charity which exists to relieve poverty in Romania with food parcels, financial assistance towards medical care and higher education alongside Christian children’s groups and the shoe box scheme. See the website for more information and how to get involved including a sponsored Lancashire Peaks walk on the 4th September; www.handsofhoperomania.org.uk

WOW is on the first and third Wednesdays afternoons each month 13.30 -15.30. It is not only for those who wish to knit. You can drop in for a hot drink and biscuit, game of Sudoku, dominos or just for a chat. The knitters make a variety of goods for donation. They also knit for Queenscourt Hospice who sell baby clothes to help fundraising, hats and neck warmers for the Seaman’s missions, baby clothes for Shiyra Trust which go via St Luke’s church, and Teddies for Tragedy which the Mother’s Union send out to children affected by disasters throughout the world.
