Vacancy: Churchwarden
Job Description: Churchwardens are called to the
highest position of trust and responsibility that the Church gives
to lay-people. Wardens should regard this as a calling to be fulfilled
to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the well-being of the Church.
Legal
- Ensuring proper insurance, maintenance of buildings and grounds, moveable contents of church and hall
- Maintaining official inventories and log books of the church
- Producing regular reports on the above to PCC and Annual meeting
- Administration in conjunction with the Vicar
- ensuring proper handling of cash and collections
- ensuring proper records are kept
Divine Services and Pastoral Care
- Working closely with the Ministry team
- ensuring cover by sides persons and a warden / deputy at every main service
- Building relationship with congregation and having a care for them and setting an example
- promote the whole mission of the church, which is pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical;
- carry an official wand or staff of office at special services.
Time commitment - many wardens in many churches do have fulltime jobs so the minimum is Sunday mornings 3 weeks out of four plus holidays, and around two sessions a week at meetings and in preparation. The present wardens have been doing much more than this out of enjoyment and commitment, but that does not commit anyone with less time to doing the same!
