David and Jean Hucker
David
and Jean Hucker are missionaries working for the South American Mission
Society (SAMS). Since 1998 they
have been planting San Andrés, the first Anglican church in Arica,
near Chile’s northern border with Peru. In the early days the new
group met in a number of venues but now have their own plot of land
and are building their own church. They lead a growing congregation
reaching out in both evangelism and social concern. You can download
their SAMS
brochure, where you will find more information about the Huckers
and how you can support their work in Chile. They also have a website
which has the latest information on their progress and their prayer
requests. Please do visit the site.
Latest News from David and Gina Hucker in Arica, Chile
The most important news for us in 2011, is the news that we have as
a family. The university year for Wesley was disrupted for four months
because the students took over the campus demanding free education.
We decided that it would be better for him to study in Australia,
and Caleb decided this would be best for him too.
Caleb begins studying around the end of February, and Wesley left
us on the 6th of January. Likewise he will enter the university the
same time as his brother where he will have to start from scratch,
having completed a year and a half here in Chile. None of these studies
can be used to apply for credit
towards the course in Australia. He will study electronic engineering,
the same as he was studying here in Arica, while Caleb wants to take
up study geared towards dentistry.
The last month has been a hectic one for us as a church, where we have received many blessings. We received a visit from Bishop Henry from SAMS. It was great getting to know him more personally and at the same time we were able to share communion, a constant source of frustration for us as this problem has not been resolved by the diocese during the past 13 years or more. Hopefully there may be a small cloud on the horizon bringing change, which we can tell you more about in coming newsletters.
The next visit we received was for a midweek meeting with the Archdeacon Alfredo Cooper. We had joint nightly meetings with the main nondenominational church in this city, he shared on the local Christian radio and as a church, and we were able to have a lunch together with him. The night meetings were truly memorable just as much for the preaching as for the ministry afterwards. Everybody who went forward for prayer was mightily touched by the Holy Spirit, with the majority of the people falling down under His influence.
The church year has been truly amazing, to a point now where we have a problem. We need to expand in order to accommodate the congregation that we now have. I suppose this is somewhere around 50, although not everyone comes on a Sunday at the same time. This year we will be focusing on a pastoral team, comprising of three couples and another member to also put the necessary structure in place as we are believing that God wants to double us again in numbers and we want to be prepared for this.
We are thankful for all your prayers and financial support as we know this is an integral part of the ministry here in Arica. San Andres is being greatly blessed and will be in 2012 as well. If you look for us on Facebook you can always leave us a message every now and then, as this is a much easier way to stay in touch.
God bless you,

Lorraine Williams works for the charity Imagine in Mozambique. She
originally went from Formby to Mozambique with her husband Joe in
1989 to work on a British Government sponsored aid project. They spent
their spare time helping various charities and local institutions
and, when their work contract came to an end, they decided to stay
voluntarily for a further two years to see these projects through
to completion. However, one project led to another and in 1999 they
finally acknowledged their life long dedication to the people of Mozambique
and founded the charity ‘Imagine’.
