Kath writes…
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful
in prayer.”
Romans 12.12
I have just bought a new mobile phone –
it’s shiny purple and cost less than half a tank of petrol!
I bought it as my “on duty” phone so that people can
contact me as curate without disturbing the family or my work colleagues.
Many people reading this article will know I am a “non-stipendiary”
curate, which means I don’t get paid and I have a full-time
job as well as my ministry here at Holy Trinity.
For those of you with mobile phones, one of their
great features is the ability to text! For those of you without
– a text is like a telegram: short typed words able to convey
important messages. “Don’t worry I missed the last train
– I’ll be home l8r (later)” “Can’t
talk now will ring you tonight” but also short words of comfort,
“Miss you – love you!” “Praying for you”
“Ephesians 3.14ff”
Prayer is all about communication – with
God, enjoying God’s love and hearing God’s word, bringing
people and situations before God. It is also about communication
between each other – letting people know you need prayer,
or that you are holding them in prayer.
Over the past few years my mobile and the ability
to text has been invaluable as family and friends have used this
brilliant technology to pray for each other, update one another
and support one another. Perhaps you already have some text prayer
partners? If not why not try it – especially if you are, as
the bible verse refers to, struggling with affliction, pain, grief
or other struggles and struggling to be patient through them. When
we can’t pray because of our affliction, others can and will
pray for us faithfully. This means we can rest in hope and will
sooner or later grow or return to the joy our Christian faith brings!
